This week’s themes are Gifts, Sportsmanship, and Cheating.
Ask your child the following questions about gifts:
• If you receive a present that you already have, what should you say to the gift giver?
o “Thank you.”
• If you receive a book for your birthday, and you wanted a doll, what should you say to the gift giver?
o “Thank you.”
• If you receive a present that you do not like, what should you say to the gift giver?
o “Thank you.”
• If you receive a present from someone, and you do not have one for him/her, what do you say?
o “Thank you.” No need to say “Your gift is coming,” or “I am so embarrassed that I do not have one for you.” You are not obligated to give someone a gift, just because he/she has given you one.
Ask your child the following questions about having good Sportsmanship:
• What does it mean to have good sportsmanship?
o Good sportsmanship is to play fairly and not criticize the referee or other players out loud.
• Give an example of being a poor sport.
• Give an example about being a good sport.
Ask your child the following questions about cheating:
• What are some reasons that you should not cheat?
• What should you do if you know that someone usually cheats at games?
o Try to avoid playing with these kids at all.
• What do you do if you are playing a game with someone who is cheating, and no adults are looking?
o Stop the game, and nicely tell them that you are done playing with them.
• If you do cheat, will people find out?
• Will people want to play with you?
